“I’ve been condemned to live.”

DOOMER DECEMBER continues, as Forrest MillerConan NeutronJ. Andrew World, and Kristina Oakes talk about Geoff Murphy’s The Quiet Earth (1985)

A very cool, stylish and thoughtful post-apocalyptic movie. Similar terrain is covered later in the tv show Last Man on Earth, and similarities with The Omega Man are understandable also. The movie does a great job of showing the crushing loneliness that would ensue in such a fantastic situation. Our main character, Zac Hobson is a scientist and knowledgeable with physics but doesn’t have any scene where he has to announce or explain it.

The Quiet Earth was not done on a huge budget, but it is inventive and interesting in how and when it deploys said budget.

It is not a spoiler to say that he finds other people, and things get a little complicated.
The film is atmospheric and a bit offbeat. No spoilers, but a hell of an ending. Possibly one of the greatest WTF endings of all time?

We also continue our fascination with AI generated images of the crew and react to those, as well getting some live results in on the Warnock vs. Loeffler Georgia special senate election for Senate of January 2023

One of our favorites of the apocalyptic film genre, and a key entry to Movie Night Apocalypse.
