You know, you say you’ve been walking for thirty years, right?” “Right?” “Have you ever thought that maybe you were lost?” “Nope.”

Forrest Miller, Conan Neutron, and J. Andrew World, continue on with Movie Night Apocalypse with the next installment: the Book of Eli. As a special treat, joining them is screenwriter Gary Whitta who wrote it! Gary also wrote Rogue One, yes.. the Star Wars movie.

Visually stark and very underrated post-apocalyptic film, this one is a pretty awesome meditation on the gap between organized religion and faith and the weaponization of Christianity.

So many great things to love here, the barter trading system and how society has moved forward. The titular character’s whole wandering samurai/man with no name thing. Tom Waits as the shopkeeper! This movie is all about the twist that lands. So many films try that kind of thing and it fails. This one succeeds

Notable too that so many people miss the point and assume it is Christian propaganda when it is VERY clearly about how religion can be misused to manipulate and control people, or to bring home. Written by an atheist writer. Nevertheless, It has something to say, whether you agree with it or not.

Visually fantastic, beautiful soundtrack.

This is NOT a bleak and hopeless movie, and I think that is important. The universe building is strong and it is deeply entertaining. It has something to say, whether you agree with it or not.

Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis absolutely crush it.

We’d be all in for a Book of Solara, only if our guest Gary writes it though.
