This episode  Forrest, J. Andrew World, Conan Neutron, and Kristina discuss Sofia Coppola’s new biopic Priscilla with Rayyvana.

Let’s get it out of the way, this is grooming right? Just with one of the most well known celebrities and icons of his time or any other.

Does this film go deep enough into that? Or does it pull punches?

Sofia Coppola absolutely blows away the aesthetics, visuals, the mise en scene. It’s truly like a visual masterpiece a feast for the eyes. it almost felt like a wedding cake at times.

There is also the elephant in the room of doing a biopic about a person that is still alive though.

Great soundtrack (a Sofia specialty) and who cares if there is no Elvis music in it when it is Priscilla‘s movie. Closing with the original Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You is delicious when you know the story though.

Some notable and subtle decisions like the casting: Jacob Elordl’s Elvis TOWERING over Priscilla. That height difference has to be a (wise) decision. Cailee Spaeny shines as the titular character, eloquently playing the starry eyed youth and the disillusioned, bored and exquisitely dressed woman so effortlessly you could be fooled into thinking they are different players.

Cailee Spaeny is incredible. Her whole performance is worn on her face. When she’s very young, you get that from her performance, and her confidence and her demeanor and self-reliance, you see all of that grow. She shines as the titular character, eloquently playing the starry eyed youth and the disillusioned, bored and exquisitely dressed woman so effortlessly you could be fooled into thinking they are different players.

So is this film skin deep? Tune in to find out.
