“I am the Messiah. I am Marvel Jesus.”
Forrest Miller, Conan Neutron, J. Andrew World and Kristina Oakes are joined by
Josh of the Afternoon Tune to talk about the BIGGEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD, Deadpool and Wolverine.
Watching Deadpool use his entry into the MCU to completely flay the whole “Multiverse” trope… by far the weakest MCU trope… is pretty hilarious.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is a pretty good straight man to Ryan Reynolds bouncing off the fourth wall shtick that always seems to be a few jokes away from getting stale but somehow stops short.
The movie excels where it matters most. Being a film showcasing the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine.
The whole void fight scene.. and the multiverse Deadpool fight scene.. are both pretty great
It’s clever, it’s good. It does the thing while observing that it is doing the thing. If you hate Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool or Meta referential humor…avoid! I love all of those things.
The Bugs Bunny of superhero films is back and I am here for it! -Conan Neutron
Do modern audiences understand the concept of screwball comedy. Certainly not with anything involving superheroes. Most of us had a great time. It’s the role Reynolds was born to play and second best Jackman performance ever. After the god tier Logan.
Deadpool the character is considered canonically annoying, can you handle that? No? Cool, move on.
Deadpool is like the modern Marx brothers. Gags a minute, esoteric meta references and whatever the character is up to… folks that love them want to see what is next.
To be clear, most of the hosts love comics. And are fans of superhero movies when done well, which is a hard place to occupy these days.
There is a direct correlation between Margot Robbie as Barbie. And Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. But one is a beloved franchise, and the other is the character designed to get on everybody’s nerves.
Jackman brings some serious depth to this and I loved him in this as the second lead.
The concept of how the many cameos are utilized is kind of fantastic and works on multiple levels.
Every critic seems dead set on panning this. Well: we’ve seen a lot of critically acclaimed stuff from this year, and it seems like the sliding scale applied to prestige is approaching horror levels of incredulity.
Don’t expect a Criterion Collection edition anytime soon, but this is a very good time at the movies, and one of the more scathing and dead-on critiques of what is wrong with IP and superhero movies to this day. While also embodying it. Bravo!
After the insanely popular 2016 movie Deadpool, the second Rated-R Marvel Movie, Deadpool 2 and the merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox.. Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool enters the MCU with the new movie Deadpool and Wolverine #deadpool #marvel #marvelstudios #mcu #ryanreynolds
